Faith Karimi uses an emotional diction. She uses very strong and impactful words like “gravely” and “verge of extinction” to influence her diction. While the emotional diction can be shallow in some areas the author manages to translate her feelings into the article. In addition to the emotional diction Karimi uses an equally emotional tone. By combining these two her message is clear and her attachment is present.
Karimi uses appeals to pathos in her article. By continually referencing back to the likelihood of extinction she makes the reader worry for the future of these animals. She also uses this appeal to bring attention to how quickly animals can be forgotten and killed off. Faith Karimi has a very clear purpose, this article was made to inform the reader of an unavoidable problem. The very beginning of her article clearly states this, “ With three northern white rhinos left in the world, the only male is gravely ill, raising fears the subspecies is getting closer to extinction.” Her purpose is also to try and motivate people to support the efforts to protect the rhinos. In the beginning, the author starts with very strong appeals to pathos. As the article progresses Karimi moves away from such strong appeals, however she still uses them. She also uses the exact amount of rhinos left to stress her point.Their argument is very strong because there is no way for someone to argue that the rhinos are in danger.

She focuses on how the Koreas will compete together in some of the competitions. The author has a small degree of attachment which can be seen when she discusses the worldwide benefits of the unification. Author Judith Vonberg creates strong emotions in her article. The most prevalent emotion being outrage. This strong emotion is caused by Belgiums choice in supporting Suadi Arabia. Using words such as, 'prevented' and 'strict' along with many other negative words, fules the diction.
A rhetorical device that is used in this article is sententia. This can be seen when the author quotes the Belgian Prime Minister. It sums up the aurguement and also begins to justify the authors emotion and diction. The authors tone is a continuation of the diction. It conveys the powerful diction with a an equally powerful tone. The author wrote this to spread word of Belgiums mistake of supporting Suadi Arabia. The addition of a direct quote from the Prime Minister speaks directly to this. While the purpose is evidently biased it still conveys a collective opinion about Belgium. Ther author begins the article with some background about the event as well as information about the two countries involved. This adds to Merica’s emotional attachment because it proves that he wants to reach as much of the audience as possible. The author’s purpose was to highlight President trumps flaws and rudeness. He does this by using quotes and other details. The author also includes large amounts of bias to make his argument even more profound. The goal is to show Trump supporters how immature and corrupted their leader is.The purpose would be better and more effective if the amount of bias was reduced. The author begins his article with a video clip of the occasion. He also simply describes what has happened and why it is such a big deal. Next Merica includes why Trump said this and how it affected Warren. Finally, he concludes with more examples of Trump's attacks on Warren and even some on Hillary Clinton. Some evidence includes: quotes, twitter posts, and other public announcements.Overall, the argument is very strong the only weak points are where the bias is overdone. While the authors tried to maintain an unbiased position it was clear that the information was published to gain sympathy for the Catalans. The CNN authors provided a strong and informative view on the problems of the Catalans. They begin with many statistics that help the reader form images of the struggles. Next multiple interviews with people in possitions of power are shared. Along with descriptions and other details. Finally the authors include background information about the Catalans past and the other struggles they have faced. Throughout the article there is a strong tone that supports a powerful arguement. The only weak spot in this article is when the authors include the background information. This information should have been presented in the begining, but instead it was used as an end note. This ending seems forced and somewhat unecessary. |
