Faith Karimi uses an emotional diction. She uses very strong and impactful words like “gravely” and “verge of extinction” to influence her diction. While the emotional diction can be shallow in some areas the author manages to translate her feelings into the article. In addition to the emotional diction Karimi uses an equally emotional tone. By combining these two her message is clear and her attachment is present.
Karimi uses appeals to pathos in her article. By continually referencing back to the likelihood of extinction she makes the reader worry for the future of these animals. She also uses this appeal to bring attention to how quickly animals can be forgotten and killed off. Faith Karimi has a very clear purpose, this article was made to inform the reader of an unavoidable problem. The very beginning of her article clearly states this, “ With three northern white rhinos left in the world, the only male is gravely ill, raising fears the subspecies is getting closer to extinction.” Her purpose is also to try and motivate people to support the efforts to protect the rhinos. In the beginning, the author starts with very strong appeals to pathos. As the article progresses Karimi moves away from such strong appeals, however she still uses them. She also uses the exact amount of rhinos left to stress her point.Their argument is very strong because there is no way for someone to argue that the rhinos are in danger.
