Dan Merica, an author for CNN, covers the story of 'At a Navajo veterans' event, Trump makes 'Pocahontas' crack'.
The author uses a simple diction that includes words like "nickname" and "racial slurs". While the author’s diction is simple there is still a high level of emotional attachment. And the words that make up the simple diction also form an informational tone. Merica uses a rhetorical device called alliteration. This can be found when he states, “Looking on as Trump derided Warren and heralded the three Navajo World War II heroes was a portrait of Andrew Jackson, a former president who signed the Indian Removal Act of 1830.” This refers to the president who signed to remove the Native Americans. It can be inferred as a blow to Warren’s questionable heritage. While the author uses a simple diction he still has an informational tone. He uses an educated word choice that is simple but still recounts to information. This adds to Merica’s emotional attachment because it proves that he wants to reach as much of the audience as possible. The author’s purpose was to highlight President trumps flaws and rudeness. He does this by using quotes and other details. The author also includes large amounts of bias to make his argument even more profound. The goal is to show Trump supporters how immature and corrupted their leader is.The purpose would be better and more effective if the amount of bias was reduced. The author begins his article with a video clip of the occasion. He also simply describes what has happened and why it is such a big deal. Next Merica includes why Trump said this and how it affected Warren. Finally, he concludes with more examples of Trump's attacks on Warren and even some on Hillary Clinton. Some evidence includes: quotes, twitter posts, and other public announcements.Overall, the argument is very strong the only weak points are where the bias is overdone.
